If you attended our 3rd Annual Phenomenal Hope for a Cure Fundraiser...

Tuesday, February 3, 2009
You most certainly remember the inspirational Col. Carl Hicks. He spoke about the importance of awareness and remaining hopeful. He also told us about his daughter Meaghan's battle with pulmonary hypertension. He shared with us her struggles over the years and her successful heart-lung transplant she received in February, 2007.

Col. Hicks is second from the left.
Sadly, Meaghan passed away this weekend. I have no idea what happened. I'm trying to contact someone at the Pulmonary Hypertension Association. What I do know is that this man and his family put their very private and painful battle out there for the world to see so that they could raise awareness and help others with PH. Now they are having to grieve in public. And, in true Col. Hick's fashion, here is what he said to the PHA staff:

*********

"For fifteen years she amazed and inspired us with her will to live, her courage, spirit, energy and her sense of style and humor. Meaghan never gave up, she never quit. We can never give up, we can never quit in this fight against PH. It is my honor and duty to be in this fight with each of you. "

*******

The world and, our small part of it, seems to be filled with sadness, pain, concern and even despair right now. I am praying for so many and asking for so many prayers for so many people... I'm frustrated seeing all of this....I just don't know what to do....

Actually, I DIDN'T know what to do until I prayed to God, asking Him what I should/could be doing. He told me that the best thing I could do for Col. Hicks, Meaghan, his family and for all of the others in our small part of the world is to pray....

pray for strength for those who are ill...
pray for peace for those who are struggling...
pray for calm for those who are scared...

and

pray that they all know they are loved. Thank you for listening, God.
And, thank you all for reading.

This indeed is sad news for the PH community.

Prayer is powerful and will reap rewards. I know that researchers WiLL find a cure for PH with the help of prayer.

I'm so very sorry to hear about Meaghan. I thoroughly enjoyed Col. Hicks presentation and his enormous heart for PH. He is a truly inspiring man and I'm so grateful I was able to meet him.
I'll be sending up your prayer, too. This has been quite a week for you--take care, dear friend.
Love, Donna

Oh annettte, how are you, I am so sorry to hear about Meaghan, that is so sad. I wish that we had more Col. Hicks, I wish our president, our senators and representatives, governors all understood this disease and the cost of dealing with it on a daily basis.
You are an inspiration to me
